case detail

  1. 2008-08-19
Should we tell our friend his Facebook is weird?
    Case Type:
    Friendship, Ethics
    Status:
    Verdict Reached
    Terms:
    24 hours
  2. Plaintiff:
    amelotter
    Plaintiff's Argument:
Dude. I just reconnected with our mutual friend and hanging-out-doing-stuff buddy, whom we'll call Tom, on facebook. Yesterday I received a notice that he changed
his profile and when I went to look it up, he had changed his “interested in” section to “men”. I had always thought he was straight, and if I remember correctly he had a serious girlfriend when we last hung out. But people change, right? I think I should email him and alert him to the mistake. Or at least make fun of him.
  3. Defendant:
    the dude
    Defendant's Argument:
Are you nuts? If it’s a mistake, he’ll find out soon enough when guys named Bruce start emailing pictures of their junk. If it’s not a typo, he’s obviously come out of the closet and neither of us know him well enough to make a comment about his personal life. Leave it alone, dude. It’ll sort itself out.
